Finding us

Come up the driveway from Thornborough. Follow the road around to the right. Continue through the open double gates and drive around the back of the containers. The workshop has a large green door. Parking is available to the right-hand side of the workshop. Please do not park to the left of the building.

Before your induction

George will agree your induction date and time directly with you. An induction request does not confirm an appointment or guarantee membership. Before attending, read the Membership Terms, Members’ Code of Conduct, Activity Consent and Information Form, Health & Safety Information and Privacy Notice.

Bring suitable workshop clothing, closed-toe footwear, any suitable PPE you already own, reading glasses if required, and a list of the machines you are interested in using. Avoid loose or baggy clothing and loose jewellery, and tie back long hair. Ask George what PPE is required before your visit.

During your induction

George will explain the workshop rules, safety and emergency instructions, discuss any training required, and record your induction and individual machine sign-offs. Only use machinery and equipment you have been inducted and signed off to use.

Complete the required personal details and emergency-contact section of the Activity Consent and Information Form and provide the required signatures at induction. Reading the documents online does not record a signature. George keeps your induction and machine sign-off records and can provide copies of your own signed forms on request.

Approval and membership activation

After your induction and required documents are complete, George decides whether to approve your membership. Only follow the private activation invitation and pay after he confirms your approval. The invitation will confirm your membership type, total price including applicable VAT, start date, payment schedule and cancellation arrangements.

Hobbyist Membership is £100 + VAT per month for people making items for themselves, family or friends. Professional Membership is £250 + VAT per month for people using woodworking as part of their business, selling products or making items for customers.

Membership renews monthly with no initial three-month commitment. Under the Membership Terms, you can give notice to cancel at any time and membership ends at the end of the month in which notice is given. Contact George to confirm your final payment and access date.

Workshop hours and bookings

Normal opening hours are Monday–Friday, 8am–8pm, and Saturday–Sunday, 9am–5pm. Access is normally by prior booking and may be affected by classes, teaching, maintenance or other closures, as set out in the Membership Terms.

Active, approved members can book available sessions up to 30 days ahead. Same-day bookings are allowed where space remains. There are a maximum of eight members per session.

Weekday morning sessions run from 8am to 1pm and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 8pm. Weekend morning sessions run from 9am to 1pm and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 5pm. For a full day, reserve both sessions on the same date and check that both bookings are confirmed. If either half is full, choose another date.

Include a short note about your planned work and expected machinery use. A session booking does not reserve an individual machine or authorise use of equipment you have not been signed off to use.

Signing in and workshop conduct

Sign in correctly and use your individual membership fob when entering and leaving the workshop, as required by the Members’ Code of Conduct. If working alone, keep a working, switched-on mobile phone on you at all times.

Safety glasses and hearing protection must be worn when operating machinery. Wear any other appropriate PPE and follow the instructions for the equipment you use. Walk through the workshop, do not shout, and immediately stop your activity if anyone says STOP. Treat others respectfully and report accidents, equipment faults or unsafe practices promptly. You are responsible for your guests, who must not use equipment.

First aid and emergencies

The September Sign-In form states that no emergency-trained individual or medical equipment is available on-site. Do not assume that a trained first aider or medical equipment will be available during your visit.

Follow the workshop’s safety notices and the emergency instructions explained during your induction. Contact emergency services where necessary and promptly report any accident or incident to The Woodworking Studio. The workshop address above identifies the location.

Tea, coffee and facilities

Tea and coffee facilities are available. A fridge is available for members to use.

Storage

Contact George to discuss storage availability and any separate charges before leaving projects or materials at the workshop. Do not assume storage is included in your membership. Any storage arrangement and price will be agreed individually.
