Health & Safety Information
This guide supports the Membership Terms, Members’ Code of Conduct and Activity Consent and Information Form. Read those documents in full and follow the workshop’s current safety instructions, signs and notices.
Induction and authorised equipment
Only use machinery and equipment you have been inducted and signed off to use by The Woodworking Studio. Use equipment within its permitted operating parameters. Ask George if you are unsure about your authorisation, training or safe operation.
Working safely
Do not use equipment while intoxicated or otherwise unfit to use it. Follow the safety regulations and instructions given by workshop personnel. Treat others with respect, do not rush anyone using equipment, and allow others to access equipment. Keep work areas tidy and leave machinery in a safe condition after use.
Always walk through the workshop. Do not shout. Immediately stop your activity if you hear the word STOP; any workshop user can ask someone to stop. Report equipment faults, unsafe practices, worn or missing PPE and accidents promptly to The Woodworking Studio.
PPE, clothing and dust extraction
Safety glasses and hearing protection must be worn when operating machinery. Wear any other appropriate personal protective equipment and follow the PPE and dust-extraction instructions given during your induction and for the equipment you use. Bring any suitable PPE you already own and ask George what is required before your visit.
Avoid loose or baggy clothing, open-toed footwear and loose jewellery. Tie back long hair. Mobile phones must not be used while operating machinery; headphones and earphones are not permitted in the workshop.
Signing in, access and lone working
Sign in correctly and use your individual membership fob when entering and leaving the workshop, as required by the Members’ Code of Conduct. Membership and access are personal to you and cannot be transferred to someone else.
If working alone, keep a working, switched-on mobile phone on you at all times. Follow the workshop instructions and do not undertake work for which you have not been trained and signed off.
First aid and emergencies
The September Sign-In form states that no emergency-trained individual or medical equipment is available on-site. Do not assume that a trained first aider or medical equipment will be available during your visit.
Follow the workshop’s safety notices and the emergency instructions explained during your induction. Contact emergency services where necessary and promptly report any accident or incident to The Woodworking Studio. Ask George about anything unclear before beginning work.
Guests and personal belongings
You remain personally responsible for any guest you bring. Guests are not permitted to use equipment. Keep your personal belongings with you, as required by the Membership Terms, and contact George before leaving any project or materials for storage.
Documents and contact details
Complete the required personal details and emergency-contact section of the Activity Consent and Information Form and provide the required signatures at induction. Reading a website page does not record a signature. Contact George directly to update your details or discuss practical support needs.
Failure to follow workshop safety requirements may result in suspension or termination of membership under the Membership Terms and Members’ Code of Conduct.
