FAQs
-
Membership includes workshop access during available booked sessions within normal opening hours, subject to classes, teaching, maintenance and other closures described in the Membership Terms. You may use workshop facilities and machinery you have been inducted and signed off to use. Members can book workshop sessions online and access member resources, workshop documentation, guidance and ongoing support.
-
We welcome enquiries from people with different levels of woodworking experience. The induction helps us assess whether you can work safely and independently in the workshop. If you have limited experience, further training may be recommended before your membership can be approved.
-
Before becoming a member, you’ll attend a workshop induction covering the workshop layout, health and safety procedures, workshop rules and emergency arrangements. You may also be assessed and signed off on individual machines where appropriate. If your induction is completed successfully, you’ll be invited to activate your membership.
-
No. The induction gives us an opportunity to assess your experience, safety awareness and suitability for independent workshop use. We may recommend further training before approving your membership.
-
You may use any machine you have been inducted and signed off to use. Machine authorisations are recorded individually, so not every member will automatically have access to every machine.
-
Additional machine inductions can be arranged after you become a member. Once you have completed the relevant induction successfully, your record will be updated and you’ll be authorised to use that machine.
-
Active members can book available morning or afternoon workshop sessions up to 30 days ahead, with a maximum of 8 members in each session. Same-day bookings are allowed where space remains. Weekday sessions run from 8am to 1pm and 1pm to 8pm; weekend sessions run from 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm. For a full day, reserve both sessions for the same date and check that both bookings are confirmed. If either half is full, choose another date. Include a short note about your planned work and expected machinery use. A booking does not reserve a particular machine or authorise use of equipment you have not been signed off to use.
-
Members must wear suitable workshop clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear. Safety glasses, hearing protection and any other required personal protective equipment must be worn when using machinery. Bring any suitable PPE you already own and ask George what is required before your visit.
-
Guests may be permitted by prior arrangement. You are personally responsible for any guest you bring into the workshop. Guests must sign in, follow all workshop rules and must not use any workshop equipment.
-
Contact George to discuss storage availability and any separate charges before leaving projects or materials at the workshop. Do not assume storage is included in your membership. Any storage arrangement and price will be agreed individually.
-
Membership renews monthly, with no initial three-month commitment. You can give notice to cancel at any time. Under the Membership Terms, membership ends at the end of the month in which you give notice. Contact George to arrange cancellation and confirm your final payment and access date.
-
Hobbyist Membership is £100 + VAT per month, for people making items for themselves, family or friends. Professional Membership is £250 + VAT per month, for people who use woodworking as part of their business, sell products or make items for customers. Both include workshop access during opening hours, subject to booking and your individual machine sign-offs. Membership renews monthly.
-
Not necessarily. Approved members may use the workshop during available booked sessions without a member of staff being present. You must follow all workshop and lone-working rules, carry a working mobile phone and only use machinery you have been inducted and signed off to use.
